Under the motto "Cold head, warm heart" the Aragua team faced teams from the capital region and the
Bolívar state.
El Consejo, Revenga Municipality, August 2022.- For the sixth consecutive year, Alcatraz Rugby Club
became champion of the National Rugby Club League, beating UCAB Rugby Club with a score of 12 – 0.
After a close first half, Alcatraz R.C. managed to open the scoring with a try with conversion in the
hands of captain Wilkinson Arrieta, which ended the first 20 minutes of the match. The second half was
no different and UCAB Rugby Club continued to press, until the player Anther Herrera sealed the match
with a Try without conversion, to close with the final score 12-0, in favor of the Aragua team.
“This win represents the great effort Alcatraz Rugby Club has made preparing for national and
international tournaments. Since the training to participate in Benidorm, Spain, the team has
transformed to leave the name of Venezuela, and especially Aragua, on high”, said Alberto Vollmer,
President of Santa Teresa Foundation.
During the first day of the semifinals played last Saturday at Hacienda Santa Teresa, Alcatraz RC
defeated Crum (31-15) and Bolívar (48-5), which earned them a pass to the semifinals against UCV
Rugby Club, a team they surpassed with a slate from 25 points to 0.
“Since the times were shorter, we had to adjust the strategy to score in the shortest time possible and
achieve victories. Step by step, the team got together and achieved the necessary speed to score”, said
José Arrieta, coach of Alcatraz Rugby Club.
The National Tournament was held on Saturday, July 30, and Sunday, July 31, in the fields of Hacienda
Santa Teresa, and six teams gathered, including UCV, Crum, UCAB, Guerreros, and the Bolívar team.
Alcatraz Rugby Club, which is made up of five competitive teams: infantile, M-14, M-18, female and
Senior Free, was born as part of Proyecto Alcatraz®, a reintegration program for young people with
behavioral problems through work, the practice of rugby and training in values. Over time, it evolved
into a team made up mostly of players from the school and community rugby programs, as well as from
the Children's Rugby League, which is also carried out by the Foundation.
